Reliquie

RELIQUIE

Ricordi? Cercavi assorta,
fra ghiaia e sassi, reliquie
che la corrente porta e
nasconde sotto i passi
di persone ignare.

Sordi i tuoi orecchi
ai tumulti e ai richiami,
raccoglievi dei vecchi
pezzi di vetro con mani
frustate dal mare.

Blu, verdi, bianchi, gli occhi
scorgevano fra conchiglie e
resti di granchi i cocci,
una volta aguzzi, di bottiglie:
sembravano aspettare.

Mutati fra onde e vento in
gemme rotonde, splendenti,
col passar del tempo anche
i tuoi pensieri taglienti
non faranno più male.

Reliquie allo sbando che
forse un giorno adorerai.
Come allora, quando - ricordi? -
su ghiaia e sassi ormai
perfino i morsi del sole
erano diventati carezze.

RELICS

Do you remember? You were absorbed in searching,
among gravel and pebbles, for relics
that the current carries and
hides under the steps
of unaware people.

Your ears were deaf
to the tumult and the calls,
while collecting some old
pieces of glass with hands
lashed by the sea.

Blue, green, white, the eyes
caught sight, among shells and
remains of crabs, of fragments,
once ago sharp, of bottles:
They seemed to be waiting.

Changed by waves and wind into
round, shiny gems,
as time passes by also
your cutting thoughts
won't hurt any more.

Drifted relics that
perhaps one day you'll worship.
Like then, when - do you remember? -
on gravel and pebbles
even the bites of the sun
had become a caress.
